Spring has arrived?

Here I am sitting along the third baseline. I can’t believe the first baseball assignment has arrived. The wind is howling, the clouds rolling in and, of course, three pairs of gloves wait in the truck. At least I brought my hat.

It’s always hard to start a new season photographing a sport I haven’t seen in a while. While I work on knocking the rust off of my baseball skills, today I long for a gym. A sports reporter and I joke at the game that we’d rather cover basketball, even though that season seems to linger longer than the others. Knowing my luck I’ll head to the basketball post-season games later this week it will be sunny and 60-degrees, unlike this day.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. Photographing sports is still better than a real job, I tell myself. But it could be better if I take the advice from fans here in Frederick — I could be under a blanket. It didn’t seem too cold for the Warriors though, as they made plays and won their game. At least my cold fingers still made some frames.
