Atlantis lifts off for the last time
With a cry from its commander to “light this fire one more time,” the last shuttle — Atlantis — thundered into orbit Friday, July 8, 2011 on a cargo run that will close out three decades of NASA’s shuttle and usher in a period of uncertainty for America’s space program. It was the 135th shuttle flight since the inaugural mission in 1981.
Reflections on the Liberty Belle
Every so often an assignment occurs that will stick with a journalist forever. The story we worked on previewing a visit of the Liberty Belle, a World War II B-17 bomber, was one of those assignments for me.

We Americans lost another hero last week. Allen Dale June was not an ordinary World War II veteran. One of only 29 original Navajo Code Talkers during WWII, he and his brothers helped create unbreakable military radio codes using their native tongue. Allen Dale June died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 in Prescott, Ariz. He was [...]
2010 Spring Athletes of the Year
It’s that time a year again when the sports desk sends the email that they’ve picked the Athletes of the Year. It’s also that time a year when we brainstorm possible locations, themes and new ways to create the portraits.

Through the years with the Tiny Tim Center
As journalists we often count the passing of time in our careers not in years, but by how many times we have covered an assignment.
